Codex built a 3D-printed Raspberry Pi enclosure and sent it to print

A developer on the OpenAI community forum shared what hardware vibe coding looks like in practice, and the stack is worth paying attention to.

Using Codex inside ChatGPT (no terminal), the developer described a 3D object and had Codex generate the OpenSCAD code and the STL file. The design included a sliding lid, a flexible mount, and magnet-based mechanisms. At some point they gave Codex access to their computer, after which it started sending files directly to the printer without a manual step in between.

Codex also wrote the code for a Raspberry Pi housed inside the enclosure and produced a visual guide showing exactly where to connect each pin.

The project did not stop at the physical device. The developer reports that Codex also built a connected app that the device uploads data to over the internet.

The practical signal here: someone with curiosity and a ChatGPT subscription is now closing the loop from natural language description to printed hardware to running software, without deep CAD, electronics, or dev experience. The toolchain is Codex, OpenSCAD, an STL pipeline, and a Raspberry Pi.
