Google is rolling out AI Inbox in Gmail to paid Workspace subscribers. The feature pulls action items and priority summaries out of email threads automatically, without requiring users to read through every message manually.

What AI Inbox Does

The feature has two components. Suggested to-dos scans email conversations and extracts action items, deliverables, and deadlines. Topics to catch up on delivers context-rich summaries of multi-message threads and fast-moving back-and-forth discussions, so users can see the latest decisions and status changes at a glance.

Who Gets It

Eligible plans include Business Starter, Standard, and Plus; Enterprise Starter, Standard, and Plus; AI Pro for Education; and Frontline Plus. Current availability is limited to US users with EN-US set as their language. Starter and Education editions are slated to follow in the coming months.

One notable detail: there is no admin toggle for this feature. Administrators cannot enable or disable AI Inbox through the Google Workspace Admin console.

Rollout Timeline

  • Rapid Release domains: rollout started October 12, 2026
  • Scheduled Release domains: rollout starts October 26, 2026
  • Each domain type gets up to 15 days for the feature to become visible

Eligible users can access AI Inbox from the Gmail desktop client or the Gmail mobile app menu. Google’s Help Center has additional setup details.
