Google Gemini Intelligence brings agentic AI to Android phones

Google has announced Gemini Intelligence, a collection of agentic AI features built directly into Android. The system handles complex, multistep tasks across apps: browsing the web, filling out forms, dictating speech, and interacting with commonly used mobile apps.

How It Works

You trigger Gemini Intelligence by long pressing the power button and giving verbal instructions. Google says the assistant only starts working after you explicitly ask it to. Purchases still require a final confirmation from you, data access is managed through Android’s existing permissions menu, and a progress bar lets you track what Gemini is doing or stop it at any point.

Gemini can also use what is visible on the phone screen or in an image to better understand your request. Google’s demo use cases include booking exercise classes, copying grocery lists between apps, and finding similar travel options from a photo.

What Else Is Shipping

The update bundles several other features:

  • Chrome for Android: Gemini can now summarize pages and answer questions about web content directly in the browser.
  • Gboard Rambler: A new voice dictation mode that transcribes speech, preserves the user’s tone, and removes filler words for more natural input.
  • Natural language widget builder: Describe the Android widget you want and Gemini builds it, usable on your home screen even if it didn’t come from a specific app.

Availability

All of these features arrive first on recent Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices. Broader Android availability is planned for later this year.
