Meta launches Muse Code: a terminal coding agent at $0.10/M tokens

Meta shipped Muse Code in beta this week, a terminal-based coding agent aimed squarely at the same developer workflows that Claude Code and OpenAI Codex already occupy.

What It Does

Muse Code handles complete software engineering tasks across large repositories. It can plan changes, write code, run validation, and keep working across long jobs without losing context. The agent uses persistent sub-agents that maintain context and work in parallel, designed for extended development tasks rather than one-off completions.

It runs on Muse Spark 1.2, a coding-focused model update that Meta says was developed and trained alongside the agent itself. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang told CNBC the pairing improves coding performance. Muse Spark 1.2 scores 54 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index and has posted competitive results on Terminal-Bench 2.1 and DeepSWE 1.1.

The Pricing Play

This is where Meta’s pitch gets interesting for cost-conscious operators.

  • Standard pay-as-you-go: $1.25 per million input tokens
  • Contributor tier: $0.10 per million input tokens, more than 10 times cheaper

The contributor tier comes with a tradeoff: developers must opt in to letting Meta use their data to train its models. For teams unwilling to make that exchange, Meta has begun accepting requests for zero-data retention, which Wang described as “a big enterprise feature that is important for folks.”

For solo operators or small teams working on non-sensitive projects, the contributor tier pricing is hard to ignore. For anyone touching proprietary source code or customer data, the zero-data retention option is the one to evaluate carefully.

Where to Access It

Muse Code is available through Meta’s developer platform, the same one that hosts the Muse Spark API. Muse Spark 1.2 is also coming to OpenRouter, putting it alongside models from OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Z.ai, and other labs. Install requires a single command, according to Wang.
