Meta’s Muse Code is a terminal-based AI coding agent with a 21x discount tier
Meta just entered the AI coding agent race with Muse Code, its first terminal-based coding agent. It runs on macOS and Linux, and it is powered by a new model called Muse Spark 1.2, built specifically for coding by Meta Superintelligence Labs.
What Muse Code Is
The model and the agent were co-trained together, meaning the tool and the underlying model were designed as a unit rather than a model bolted onto an existing interface. Muse Spark 1.2 carries a 1 million token context window.
On benchmarks, it finishes second to Anthropic’s Claude. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang are both attached to the launch.
Pricing and the Catch
There are two tiers. The standard tier runs at regular API pricing. The contributor tier is priced at 21 times cheaper than standard. The tradeoff: on the contributor tier, Meta gets to train on your code.
That is a real tradeoff worth thinking through before you opt in. If you are working on proprietary code or client projects, the contributor tier economics change quickly.
Who This Is For
Developers who want a terminal-native coding agent with a large context window and do not mind the Meta ecosystem. The 21x pricing gap is significant enough that budget-conscious solo developers will look twice, but the data licensing terms on the contributor tier deserve a careful read before you commit.
