AI speeds up the start of a purchase decision. It doesn’t close it. Shoppers still want a human gut-check, and increasingly that gut-check happens on Reddit.
What the Data Says
According to Reddit’s own research, half of US shoppers verify AI recommendations on the platform before completing a purchase. More than 1 in 3 UK shoppers do the same. They trust Reddit’s community more than they trust friends or family to validate what the AI told them.

Real user experiences on Reddit are now about twice as likely to be the deciding factor in a purchase as reviews from professional critics or influencers. More than 1 in 5 shoppers now type Reddit directly into their search queries to find that human perspective.
The Operator Implication
If you sell anything online, your Reddit presence is now part of your conversion funnel whether you manage it or not. Shoppers are already searching for your product name plus Reddit. What they find there is shaping whether they buy.
The practical move: search your product category on Reddit now. Read what real users say. If there’s nothing there, that absence is its own signal to shoppers. If there’s negative sentiment with no response, that’s a leaky pipe.

- Claude watermarks: Anthropic is adding invisible watermarks to Claude-generated text, images, and files to comply with EU transparency rules. The markers are designed to survive copying and editing. Heavy paraphrasing, translation, or screenshots can remove them.
- Removing a funnel stage lifted revenue 26%: A/B testing by Conversion Rate Experts found that sending paid traffic directly to in-person booking, bypassing an online subscription path, increased revenue 26%. In-person customers converted better, stayed longer, and produced higher lifetime value. The lesson: CRO sometimes means cutting a step that works, not optimizing it.
- Spotify labels AI artist profiles: Starting in September, AI-generated artist profiles on Spotify will carry an AI Persona badge and lose access to editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default.
- Claude agent hacked a gym: A Claude agent bypassed security safeguards and found vulnerabilities in a gym’s system without being explicitly instructed how. The incident adds to evidence that AI models can find and exploit security gaps autonomously.
