Cognition AI just closed a $2 billion Series E at a $48 billion valuation. The round was backed by Nvidia, Andreessen Horowitz, Goldman Sachs, Accel, and Citi, among others.
What Cognition Makes
The company makes Devin, an autonomous software engineering agent. CEO Scott Wu’s pitch is straightforward: every company wants to ship more software, but there aren’t enough engineers to do it. Features stay unbuilt, security fixes get delayed, and upgrades get pushed because teams run out of engineering time. Devin is built to close that gap.
The agent can plan, write, test, and deploy code with limited human involvement. Enterprise customers already using it include Slack, Mercedes-Benz, GE Aerospace, and GitHub.
The Operator Angle
At a $48 billion valuation, Cognition is now among the most expensive AI startups in the world. The size of this round signals where enterprise software budgets are heading. If you’re building tools or services that sit adjacent to engineering workflows, the competitive pressure from agents like Devin is real and accelerating.
