Marketing teams are handing more decisions to AI while knowing the data underneath those decisions is unreliable. That is the core finding of Validity’s State of CRM Data Report 2026, and the numbers are worth sitting with if you run any kind of marketing operation.
The Data Quality Gap
Nearly 91% of marketers say data readiness is critical for adopting AI. Only 21% consider their CRM data very well prepared for the AI tools they currently use or plan to use. That gap is not a rounding error.
Only 26% of respondents said more than three-quarters of their CRM data is accurate and complete. Nearly half said their organization actively struggles with CRM data quality.

What Bad Data Actually Costs
Sixty-two percent of respondents said poor CRM data probably or definitely cost their organization revenue. The failure modes named include missed renewals, inaccurate forecasts, lost deals, and misdirected campaigns.
Nearly 69% said a revenue, pipeline, or performance number they or their team presented was challenged or walked back because the underlying data was wrong. That is a credibility problem, not just a data problem.
AI Is Already Acting on It
Forty-five percent of respondents already use agentic AI that can act without human review. Two-thirds of organizations increased the number of marketing decisions delegated to autonomous agents over the past year.
About 19% said they frequently acted on an AI-generated recommendation they later suspected was wrong due to poor underlying data. Another 43% said it happened occasionally. That puts roughly 62% of teams regularly making or nearly making bad calls based on AI outputs their own data poisoned.
Who Owns the Fix
Only 41% of organizations have a dedicated data governance team or owner. If you are in the other 59% and you are expanding AI’s role in your marketing operations, the report’s implication is clear: the AI is not the problem to solve first.
