B2B content overload is real — here’s how to build assets buyers actually keep

AI has made it easy to produce more content faster. According to Content Marketing Institute’s 2026 B2B research, 89% of marketers using AI apply it to written content creation, and 87% say it has improved productivity. Only 39% say it has actually improved content performance.

That gap is the real problem. More volume does not mean more value. The challenge shifts from how do we produce enough to which content deserves serious investment.

What B2B buyers actually do with content

Demand Gen Report’s Content Preferences Benchmark Survey found that 56% of B2B buyers feel overwhelmed by the amount of content available to them. At the same time, 72% say they share content with relevant team members.

That second number is the signal worth acting on. When a buyer shares a piece internally, it is doing a job: supporting a decision, answering a recurring question, or giving a team something to act on. That is a different category of content than a blog post written to chase a keyword.

The operator takeaway

Not every article needs to last. But when a resource addresses a recurring buyer need, supports an important decision, or gives people something they can put into practice, it deserves a longer shelf life and a different level of investment.

The practical question for any content team is: which pieces belong in that tier? Build those with more care, keep them updated, and distribute them differently than your volume content.
