Blocking malicious email before it lands is no longer enough. Barracuda just launched Barracuda Integrated Email Protection, a cloud email security product targeting Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments that keeps working after a message hits the inbox.

What It Does

The product uses AI to detect and remove threats post-delivery, including a message clawback feature that pulls malicious emails after the fact. It also re-evaluates threats as new signals emerge, such as URL activity, identity changes, and telemetry from connected systems, rather than making a single pass at delivery time.

Key features according to Barracuda:

  • Automated threat investigation and tenant-wide remediation
  • Unified quarantine view with reporting on threats stopped before and after delivery
  • Consolidation of Microsoft-quarantined emails into its own interface, with rescanning before release
  • Cross-domain signal correlation across email, identity, network, data, and application environments
  • Plain-language verdict explanations via Bailey, Barracuda’s AI assistant, with the ability to review or reverse automated actions

The Research Behind the Launch

Barracuda published red-team research alongside the launch. In a controlled simulation, a single phishing email led to identity theft, MFA bypass, persistence, and endpoint compromise in under five minutes.

The company also found that one in seven compromised accounts is used to launch further attacks, fueling lateral movement across identities, systems, and data. Barracuda’s threat intelligence operation analyzes about 1.5 billion URLs per day across hundreds of threat feeds.

Deployment and Target Market

The product deploys via an API-based architecture, which means no changes to mail exchange records and minimal disruption to mail flow. It supports both single-tenant and multi-tenant configurations, making it relevant for managed service providers running multiple customer environments.

Barracuda said the product is built on its BarracudaONE platform. It is aimed at organizations running Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace that want post-delivery remediation and cross-platform visibility in one product.
