herdr fixes the multi-agent terminal tab problem
Running two or more AI coding agents in parallel creates a specific kind of friction: too many terminal tabs open, no quick way to tell which agent is idle versus actively working, and constant context-switching just to check their status.
The developer behind herdr hit this exact wall after running Claude Code and Codex side by side. Within a week, five tabs were open simultaneously. Some were waiting for input, but there was no way to know which ones without clicking into each tab individually.
What herdr does
Herdr is a terminal tool built specifically to manage multiple AI coding agents at once. It tracks agent state across sessions so you can see at a glance which agents are blocked and waiting for you versus which ones are still processing.
The developer tried tmux status bars with custom scripts as a workaround. That approach worked to some extent but required manual setup time and still could not reliably distinguish between a blocked agent and one that was actively running. Herdr is positioned as the purpose-built fix for that gap.
