Dataiku Headless lets Claude Code and Codex work inside governed data systems

Writing a data pipeline with an AI coding assistant is getting easier. Getting that pipeline to actually run inside a company’s existing data infrastructure is a different problem entirely.

Permissions, dependencies, and access controls mean a script that works in isolation often breaks the moment it touches real enterprise systems. That gap is what Dataiku is targeting with its new Headless capability.

What Dataiku Headless Does

Headless lets developers use AI coding tools, specifically Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Cursor, to build and modify data pipelines, models, dashboards, and agents while staying inside the Dataiku platform. The key word is inside: the work happens within Dataiku’s governance layer rather than outside it in a bare code editor.

To make that possible, Dataiku ships an MCP server alongside Headless. The MCP server exposes platform tools to coding agents and includes instructions that help those agents understand how to use them correctly. The agent knows what it can and cannot touch.

Why This Matters for Data Teams

The pattern here is worth noting for any operator running data work in an enterprise context. AI coding agents are genuinely useful for writing SQL, Python transformations, and pipeline logic. But enterprise data environments enforce rules that a generic coding agent has no awareness of: who can read which tables, which transformations are approved, which schemas are off limits.

Dataiku’s approach routes the agent through the platform’s own MCP server rather than giving it raw access. That keeps the governance model intact while still letting the agent do real work.

If your team is already running Dataiku and considering where AI coding agents fit, Headless appears to be the controlled on-ramp Dataiku is offering rather than letting developers go rogue with Claude Code pointed directly at Snowflake.
