Dougs, a Lyon-based regulated accounting and financial management platform serving small businesses, has closed a €50 million funding round from Expedition Growth Capital. The London and Berlin-based growth equity firm manages over €900 million in assets and raised €323 million for its Fund III in December 2025.
Where the Money Goes
Dougs has already embedded AI into its bookkeeping workflows, with the system completing tasks autonomously and handing off to a chartered accountant only for review and sign-off. The next phase is what the company calls agentic accounting: financial workflows generated entirely by agentic systems, with human accountants in a supervisory role rather than an execution role.
The company is targeting €100 million in ARR and 100,000 customers, with the stated goal of becoming France’s largest chartered accounting business.
The Market Size Behind the Bet
Dougs puts the French accounting and adjacent services market at over €20 billion. Its core addressable segment, small business accounting, represents approximately €1.5 billion of that today. That leaves a lot of room before the €100M ARR target becomes a ceiling.
For operators watching the agentic software space: accounting is one of the cleaner early fits for agent-driven automation. The workflows are rule-bound, the outputs are auditable, and the regulatory requirement for a human sign-off creates a natural human-in-the-loop checkpoint. Dougs is building the production version of that pattern at scale.
