Factory raises $200M, hits $5B valuation in AI coding agent race

The enterprise AI coding agent market just got a new $5 billion player. Factory closed a $200 million funding round that more than tripled its valuation from the $1.5 billion it carried after raising $150 million in April.

Who Backed It

The round included Blackstone, Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Insight Partners, Evantic Capital, and Sound Ventures.

What Factory Does

Founded in 2023 by Matan Grinberg and Eno Reyes, Factory gives enterprise engineering teams AI agents that build, test, and maintain software. It competes directly with Cognition and Cursor.

“Across the world’s largest enterprises, we are seeing a move from individual coding agents to software factories that serve as the core foundation from which an entire software company operates.” — Matan Grinberg, co-founder and CEO of Factory

The Operator Context

The raise lands in a market where companies like Coinbase and Block are actively reshaping their engineering workforces around AI productivity gains. Cognition raised $2 billion at a $48 billion valuation earlier this month, which gives you a sense of how fast capital is concentrating in this space.

For solo operators and small teams, the takeaway is directional: the enterprise tooling tier is getting well funded and fast. The tooling filtering down to smaller operators will likely improve on the same timeline.
