Google closes $1.5B+ talent deal with AI startup Mechanize
Google has closed its talent deal with Mechanize Inc, a San Francisco-based AI coding startup. LinkedIn profiles of Mechanize employees confirm the move is complete. The deal was previously reported at over $1.5 billion.
Mechanize focused on AI agents, and the acquisition adds that team directly to Google’s AI bench. Business Insider first reported the completion based on the public profile updates.

When Google pays $1.5B+ to absorb an AI agents team rather than build internally, it signals how much the major labs are willing to spend to close capability gaps fast.
