Google’s 2026 data shows when discounts actually peak by category

If you run any kind of e-commerce, affiliate site, or seasonal marketing campaign, Google just handed you a useful planning document. The company’s 2026 holiday shopping guide uses historical pricing data to map exactly when discount peaks hit across retail categories.

What the data shows

Not all categories peak at the same time. Black Friday weekend is the best window for electronics, shoes, fragrances, and appliances. Late December is actually better for cosmetics, handbags, and kitchenware.

That split matters if you’re planning promotional timing or setting up affiliate content calendars. Pushing a cosmetics campaign on Black Friday may underperform compared to waiting two to three weeks.

The search patterns that tell you when urgency spikes

Google’s search data adds another layer. Searches for “next day shipping” peak on December 22. Searches for “same day pickup” peak on December 24. If your store or campaign offers either option, those are the two days to have your messaging front and center.

The operator takeaway

Build your promotional calendar around the category, not just the holiday. Electronics and appliances: Black Friday. Cosmetics, handbags, kitchenware: late December. Last-minute fulfillment messaging: December 22 and 24 specifically.
