Harness just added an AI coding layer to its DevOps platform. The company acquired select assets from Augment Code and used them to build the Harness Cosmos Software Factory.
What Harness Got
The acquired assets include Cosmos, a set of AI coding agents, an Auggie command line interface, and a Code Context Engine. These components now form the foundation of the new Software Factory offering inside the Harness portfolio.
The Stated Goal
According to Harness CEO Jyoti Bansal, the overall goal is to give DevOps teams an integrated set of tools that spans the entire software development lifecycle. The Cosmos acquisition fills the AI coding gap in that stack.
Teams will have the option to deploy the Harness Cosmos Software Factory or continue using other AI coding tools. Harness is positioning this as an addition to its portfolio, not a forced migration.
Why It Matters
For DevOps teams already inside the Harness ecosystem, a native AI coding agent with a CLI and a context engine means fewer context switches between tools. Whether it competes meaningfully with standalone AI coding assistants depends on how tightly it integrates with the rest of the Harness SDLC toolchain.
