Your team has run the prompts. Someone built an agent. A few experiments worked, most didn’t, and now you have security gaps, inconsistent output quality, and no way to repeat what actually produced results. The problem isn’t the model. It’s the missing operating layer around it.
Marketing thought leader Anjleena Dewan delivered this framework at CMO Alliance in San Francisco. The AI for Marketing Show recorded and published it. It covers how to build what Dewan calls a marketing harness: a structured system layered on top of your enterprise AI foundation that keeps AI projects visible, governed, and reusable.
Model vs. harness: where the value now lives
Dewan’s core argument is that the model itself is no longer the differentiator. The operating layer is. Teams that win aren’t picking better models; they’re building better harnesses around them. The harness is what turns one-off experiments into a repeatable growth engine.
The two-lane structure
The harness runs two lanes in parallel:
- AI innovation lane: where new ideas get explored and tested
- AI enablement lane: where proven ideas get operationalized and shared across teams
Both lanes feed each other. Innovation produces candidates. Enablement turns winners into reusable assets. Without both, you either stagnate or spin.
Five pieces of metadata every AI idea needs
Before any AI project gets built, Dewan’s framework requires five metadata fields attached to the idea. The talk doesn’t name all five individually in the published description, but the principle is clear: an intake process that captures enough information to make each project reviewable, testable, and replicable by someone who wasn’t in the room when it was conceived.
The review, testing, and publishing process
Once built, agents go through a structured review and testing process before publishing. The goal is reusability across teams, not one-time deployment. If an agent works for paid media budgeting on one team, the harness makes it available to the next team that needs the same capability.
Dewan cites four concrete use cases where the harness applies: paid media budgeting, landing page copy, analytics, and SEO planning.
The metrics that tell you it’s working
The framework includes a measurement layer. Dewan covers which metrics indicate whether the harness is producing consistent output and whether the two lanes are functioning. The talk is aimed at CMOs, marketing ops leaders, and the go-to AI person inside a marketing team.
