Meta has entered the AI coding agent market with Muse Code, its first agent built specifically to handle software engineering tasks. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the preview release, describing it as a tool capable of managing tasks from planning through execution.

What Shipped

The release has two parts. Muse Code is the agent layer. Alongside it, Meta released Muse Spark 1.2, an updated version of its foundation model tuned specifically for coding workloads.

The AI division behind the launch is led by Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, operating under Meta Superintelligence Labs.

The Operator Takeaway

Meta’s Llama models already have meaningful developer adoption, which gives Muse Code a distribution advantage most new coding agents don’t have. Whether the agent-level execution matches OpenAI’s Codex or Anthropic’s Claude-based coding tools is still an open question at preview stage. Worth watching once the full release lands and independent benchmarks appear.
