Meta launches Muse Code, its first AI coding agent
Meta just entered the AI coding agent race directly. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Muse Code, the company’s first AI coding agent, now available in beta. The announcement puts Meta in direct competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude in the fast-moving coding assistant market.
What Was Announced
Two products landed at once. Muse Code is Meta’s dedicated AI coding agent, released in beta. Alongside it, Meta announced Muse Spark 1.2, a new update to its primary AI model with a specific focus on coding tasks.
The announcements come out of Meta Superintelligence Labs, the AI unit Meta stood up earlier this year. Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang is part of the leadership team behind the effort.
Why It Matters
Meta has been running an internal push around AI coding, with reports of the company mandating weekly AI coding practices across its engineering teams. Muse Code looks like the external product that grew out of that internal pressure testing.
The competitive signal is straightforward: every major AI lab now has a coding agent story. OpenAI has ChatGPT with coding capabilities, Anthropic has Claude, and now Meta has Muse Code. For developers and indie operators choosing a tool, the market just got more crowded.
