Salesforce announced Tuesday morning it plans to acquire digital marketing firm Braze (Nasdaq: BRZE) for approximately $5.66 billion. BRZE shares jumped 50% on the news.

Why Salesforce Wants Braze

Salesforce framed the deal around agentic AI for marketers. In the announcement, the company stated:

“AI is raising the bar for marketers, who now need agentic solutions that can understand customers, make decisions, and act in real time.”

Salesforce said Braze’s real-time engagement and AI decisioning capabilities are expected to fit across all four layers of its architecture: Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce, and SIForce.

The Bigger Context

The deal lands as investors have grown worried about a so-called SaaSpocalypse, a scenario where AI agents reduce enterprise spend on standalone SaaS tools. Salesforce is making a large bet that bundling AI-native marketing tools into its platform is the answer.

For operators running marketing stacks, this signals more consolidation ahead. Tools that sit outside a major platform’s orbit are increasingly acquisition targets or revenue at risk.
