Slack Code brings AI agent coding into shared team channels
Most AI coding tools are solo experiences. The agent lives in your editor, the output lands in your repo, and your teammates see the result after the fact. Slack is betting that is the wrong model.
Slack is launching Slack Code: dedicated channels where teams can work with AI agents on software together. The product is positioned as an open space for software development, built on the premise that AI-assisted coding should happen inside the same conversations, decisions, and feedback loops that already run through Slack.
What Slack Code Does
Instead of bouncing between a coding tool and a separate chat thread, Slack Code puts the agent, the work, and the discussion in one channel. The term Slack uses for this mode of working is vibe-coding, though the product direction behind it is straightforward: make the AI’s process visible to the whole team while it is happening, not just after something ships.
That visibility angle is the core of Slack’s product logic here. The platform has always pushed the idea that work should be searchable and discussable rather than buried in private threads. Slack Code applies the same argument to AI-generated code.
Why Slack Is Making This Move
Coding agents are getting faster and more capable, but most of the tool investment has gone into specialist products that operate outside the team’s line of sight. Slack’s position is that generating code is only part of the value. Making AI work legible to the people responsible for decisions is the other part.
It also protects Slack’s position in the AI workplace stack. If agents become the starting point for more and more work, Slack needs to remain the place where that work gets coordinated. Slack Code is both a defense against tool-switching and an argument that the channel itself can be a workspace for human-agent collaboration.
The Operator Angle
For small teams and indie operators who already run projects inside Slack, this could reduce context-switching overhead. Whether the execution delivers on the concept depends on how well the agent integrates with existing Slack workflows. Slack has not published pricing details specific to Slack Code beyond its placement as a Slack product.
