Slack Code brings AI coding agents into shared team channels

One friction point with AI coding agents is that the work happens in a silo. The developer and the agent go off together, and the rest of the team only sees the output, not the process. Slack is trying to fix that with Slack Code.

What Slack Code Is

Slack Code adds dedicated code channels to Slack. Each channel ties to a specific project and becomes a shared view of an agent’s work: the conversation, the plan, the code diffs, and live previews. When a coding agent is tagged in an existing Slack conversation, a code channel can be created automatically. Completed channels archive with their full history intact as an audit record.

Which Agents Are Connected

The initial release integrates with five agents: Anthropic’s Claude, Cognition’s Devin, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Vercel’s agents. Slack also plans to open its code-channel APIs to the broader developer community so custom agents can participate. The Add to Slack capability lets teams bring in agents built on Lovable, Vercel, OpenAI, LangChain, and n8n.

The Workflow in Practice

The stated use cases cover new feature development, webpage updates, and bug fixes. A product manager can spot a bug in a Slack channel, pull in a coding agent, and let it use the existing conversation, screenshots, and documents as context. The agent proposes a fix and opens a code channel. An engineer reviews the diff, runs the live preview, and either approves the pull request or instructs the agent to merge.

Non-technical team members, including product managers and designers, can follow the work and give feedback without opening a terminal. Engineers retain final review and approval before anything ships.

Security and Controls

Agents in code channels inherit Slack’s existing security model, permissions, and administrative controls. For high-stakes actions like pushing to production, the agent packages its work for human review and sign-off inside the channel before anything moves forward.

“AI only creates value when it’s part of how a team actually works, not something people go do alone in another tab. Code channels bring that work into the open, where the rest of the team can see it, shape it, and build on it.”

Availability

Slack Code is available across all Slack plans. Access to the respective partner agent is required to use it.
