Slack Code brings AI coding agents into shared team channels
Slack shipped a new feature on August 20, 2026 that changes how dev teams collaborate with AI coding agents. It’s called Slack Code, and it’s available on every Slack plan starting from launch day.
How It Works
Instead of delegating a coding task to an AI in a private chat, your team tags an agent directly into a conversation. The agent then opens a dedicated, project-specific code channel where the full team can watch the work happen, review output, and approve before anything ships.
Supported agents at launch include Anthropic’s Claude Code and Cognition’s Devin. The model does the work in the open, not in a silo.
Why This Matters for Small Teams
The bigger shift here is visibility. AI coding agents doing work in private threads creates a review problem: by the time anyone sees the output, it’s already merged or deployed. A dedicated channel with sign-off before shipping is a more defensible workflow for any team that cares about what actually goes into production.
For solopreneurs with a part-time collaborator or a small dev team, having a shared record of what the agent did and why is also useful as documentation. No plan upgrade required to try it.
