Slack Code brings AI coding agents into team channels

Slack is shipping a new feature called Slack Code: dedicated channels where human teammates and coding agents work on the same task, in the same place, with a shared view of what the agent is actually doing.

How It Works

When someone tags a supported coding agent in any Slack conversation, the agent automatically spins up a code channel for that task. The channel organizes work into four separate tabs: the conversation, the plan, the code diffs, and live HTML previews. When the work is done, the channel archives itself and keeps the full history as an audit log.

Code reviews that normally live in a separate tool are now visible to everyone in the channel. Non-technical teammates can view the agent’s progress, pause it, make adjustments, or stop it entirely.

Founding Partners

Slack Code is launching with four agents at the start:

  • Claude Code from Anthropic
  • Devin from Cognition
  • Vercel Agent
  • GitHub Copilot

The underlying code channel APIs will be opened to the broader developer community after launch. Slack also calls out non-technical use cases explicitly, naming a marketing team building a campaign and a legal department reviewing documents as examples.

Agent Management and Security

Beyond Slack Code, the platform is adding a dedicated Agents tab that aggregates all active sessions. Users can check status, name a conversation, or stop an agent mid-task from one place. Agent DMs now carry clear labels, and threads have actual titles.

Rolling out agents from providers including Lovable, Airtable, n8n, OpenAI, and LangChain is handled through an “Add to Slack” flow that skips manual OAuth and manifest configuration. Agents in code channels inherit Slack’s existing security model and admin permissions. High-risk actions, like pushing code to production, require approval from a designated channel expert.

Slack Code is available on every Slack plan, provided access to the individual agents is arranged separately.
