Slack Code puts AI coding agents inside your team’s channels
Slack shipped a new product called Slack Code that brings AI coding agents directly into team channels. Instead of bouncing between your chat tool and a separate coding assistant, the entire development loop now lives inside Slack.
How Code Channels Work
Each code channel maps to a single project or task. Tag a coding agent from any existing Slack conversation and a dedicated code channel spins up automatically, pulling in the agent plus any context already shared, including screenshots and documents.
Inside the channel, separate tabs give access to the conversation, plan, code diffs, and live previews. Code diffs show old and new lines side by side. Live previews render the resulting HTML output so teams can check what will actually ship before approving anything.
Supported Agents at Launch
Five partners are building in and for Slack Code at launch:
- Anthropic: Claude
- Cognition: Devin
- GitHub: Copilot
- OpenAI: ChatGPT
- Vercel: Vercel’s agents
Access to each respective partner agent is required separately. Slack also supports adding agents built with tools like n8n, LangChain, Lovable, OpenAI, and several others through its Add to Slack feature, which handles OAuth setup, manifest configuration, and environment setup automatically.
Human Oversight Built In
Team members can pause, redirect, or stop an agent while it works. For anything going to production, the agent packages its work for a human to review and approve inside the channel before the pull request is opened or changes are merged. Agents operate within Slack’s existing permissions and administrative controls, with no separate infrastructure required.
Once a task wraps, the code channel can be archived. The full conversation history stays searchable as an audit log.
What Else Is New
Outside code channels, Slack updated the general agent experience. Agent DMs now clearly identify that you’re talking to an agent. Threads get titles so you can find past sessions. A new Agents tab centralizes all agent activity, lets you name sessions, check statuses, flag blocked threads, and stop agents mid-task.
Pricing
Slack Code is available on any Slack plan. The code channel APIs are planned to open to the broader developer community. Slack notes that pricing and packaging are subject to change and availability may vary by region.
AI only creates value when it’s part of how a team actually works, not something people go do alone in another tab. Code channels bring that work into the open, where the rest of the team can see it, shape it, and build on it.
Rob Seaman, EVP and GM of Slack at Salesforce, said that on the launch. The pitch is clear: visibility and shared approval over AI generated code, rather than one person running an agent in a separate window and committing the results.
