Weave raises $13.5M to put a dollar figure on AI coding spend

Most engineering teams are spending real money on AI coding tools and have no way to prove it’s working. Weave is betting that’s a solvable infrastructure problem, and investors just handed the company $13.5 million to prove it.

The Series A was led by Standard Capital, with participation from Y Combinator, Moonfire, Burst Capital, IrregEx, and the Agent Fund. The platform already measures over 2 million code contributions across 20,000 engineers at more than 500 companies, including Robinhood, PostHog, and Reducto.

The Problem It’s Solving

Weave’s founder and CEO Adam Cohen frames it bluntly: traditional engineering metrics like DORA, SPACE, and commit counts broke the moment AI coding tools entered the workflow. When an LLM generates a thousand lines in seconds, volume stops meaning anything.

“The era of tokenmaxxing is over. Every engineering and finance leader is now asking the same question: what is our AI spend actually returning? Lines of code are dead as a metric. Weave gives leaders one objective measure of real output, human and AI, so they can finally manage engineering like every other part of the business.”

The platform uses proprietary ML and reinforcement learning models to analyze pull requests, code reviews, and deployments, then attributes each piece of work to either a human or an AI. Everything normalizes into a single output unit so you can compare them side by side.

Four Core Features

  • Code Output: A normalized productivity metric that strips out AI-generated bloat to evaluate teams and individual engineers on actual contribution.
  • AI ROI Tracking: Translates token spend into a dollars-per-hour-of-human-work-completed figure that finance teams can read.
  • AI Skills Development: Shows which engineers are using AI agents effectively and where prompting habits are costing efficiency.
  • Prompt Router: Ingests production data and automatically routes prompts to the cheapest available model without trading off speed or code quality.

Dalton Caldwell, General Partner at Standard Capital, described AI spend as “the most powerful force in the world” with no easy measurement layer yet. David Casem, co-founder and CEO of Telnyx, said his team uses Weave to get objective measurement of both human teams and agents, and to find optimization opportunities.

For operators running hybrid dev teams, the Prompt Router alone is worth a look. Automatic model routing based on your own production data is the kind of cost control that compounds fast at any meaningful token volume.
