Wix paid $80M for a 6-month-old AI app builder. It hit $100M ARR.

In June 2025, Wix acquired Base44 for about $80 million, plus additional earn-out payments tied to performance. At the time of the deal, Base44 was six months old.

The premise was straightforward: describe what you want, and the software gets built. Base44 founder Maor Shlomo built the company around that single idea. Wix saw it early enough to pay acquisition prices for what was essentially a very fast-growing early stage product.

The ARR climb

By March 2026, Wix reported that Base44 had reached $100 million in ARR. The analysis notes a $150 million-plus ARR run rate as the current benchmark. That trajectory, from zero to $100M ARR inside roughly 15 months, is the number that makes this story worth paying attention to.

The acquisition also gave Wix something it did not previously have at comparable scale: a meaningful position in the application-development market, beyond websites.

What Base44 has been building post-acquisition

In June 2026, Base44 launched Base 1, its own proprietary large language model built specifically for application creation. Owning more of the inference stack gives Base44 greater control over cost, latency, product iteration, and the economics of scaling AI-generated applications.

Wix followed in July 2026 with the launch of Wix Headless, which brings Wix business infrastructure to AI coding tools and vibe coding platforms. The two moves together point toward a combined strategy: own the model, own the platform, and capture the emerging market of non-technical builders who want to ship real software without writing code.

The operator implication

The vibe coding category is moving faster than most founders expected. A platform that did not exist in late 2024 is now reporting $150 million-plus ARR and has a proprietary LLM. If you are building in the no-code or low-code space, or pricing your own AI tools, this benchmark is a useful data point for where the market ceiling is moving.
