AI coding agents are shipping new problems alongside new code

More generated code is not automatically better code. That is the premise behind a piece from developer Huzair Awan examining the downstream costs that AI coding agents introduce into real projects.

The argument is not that AI agents are useless. It is that the problems they create, specifically around complexity, security, debugging, and maintenance, tend to surface after the initial output looks clean and shippable.

The Operator Angle

If you are using Cursor, Copilot, Claude Code, or any agent-assisted workflow to move faster, the question worth sitting with is: who is paying for the complexity debt this code generates six months from now? On a solo project or a small team, that person is almost certainly you.

Generated code passes linter checks. It does not always pass the test of time, and it rarely explains its own assumptions to the next developer (or future you) who has to modify it.

The full breakdown of all 10 problems is on Medium.
